Supporters of the HAS Fund

To Supporters of the HAS Fund,

This year our family was faced with the difficult decision of trying to afford Catholic School. We took a leap of faith and requested assistance from the HAS Fund. The support from contributors like you means more than can be described in words.

Children will learn academics at any school. However, at St. Bridget’s in addition to strong academics, they learn to begin and end each day with a prayer, the value of Holy Mass, and the importance of Faith. No matter what university they may attend or how successful they may appear to be as adults, without Faith in God, they will not know salvation. As children learn to apply their beliefs and follow God’s commands, they  are led to a bountiful life. Today’s secular society promotes atheism, narcissism, and hedonism. Although it may give instant gratification, it ultimately paves the path to misery. Public school cannot prepare my child for dealing with the suffering inherent in life; rather it teaches my child to remove God during the school day, which is the majority of my child’s day. If learning to marginalize one’s Lord and Creator is acceptable the question for my child then becomes “what isn’t okay?” With so much competing for my child’s soul, he needs strong roots in our Catholic Faith to ensure his salvations. Although we do our best at home to live our Faith, attending Catholic School helps to reinforce what we teach at home. God has entrusted this child to us and we have one chance to raise him. Financial constraints made this a difficult challenge. But thanks to you for supporting the HAS Fund and for enabling our child to attend St. Bridget’s, where it instills the values of academics AND Faith. May God Bless you and your generosity!

Please Note

During  past weeks the church custodian has come across a number of stains on the pew cushions due to fruit drinks. Similarly a number of pieces of snack items were scattered throughout the area. We ask parents to be kind enough to clean up after the Mass they have attended.

Save the Date: The Sebastian Family is Hosting a Blood Drive

The Sebastian Family will host the DFCI / BWH Blood Mobile on Saturday, August 22 from 8:30AM to 2:30PM at St. Bridget Parish.   All blood collected at the drive will benefit patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

A check-in table will be inside the brown door of the Sr. Mary Callahan Center (PRC) for donors to stop by before going to the blood mobile.

To schedule appointments please log on to http://tinyurl.com/stbridgetblood

For donation questions please email BloodDonor@partners.org or call 617-632-3206.

With so many people away on vacation during the summer season and unavailable to donate, hospital blood supplies can quickly drop to critical levels, but patients’ needs remain the same.  Your blood donation will help make sure Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s patients have blood this summer.

We have a goal of 40 donors signed up for the blood drive.  All blood types are needed.

Donors will receive a DFCI/BWH t-shirt

Coffee and Donut Sign Ups !!!!!

This program operates in Oct., Nov., Feb., April, May & June on the first Sunday of the month in the School Hall after the 9:30AM Mass until 11:00AM.

Preparing for the fall and families’ busy schedules, we are going to try something different for the Coffee and Donut extravaganza. This year we will try a rotating schedule. What this means is that one family will sign up for one of the six Sundays listed. The sign up sheet is posted in the Upper Church Sacristy. Each family will be responsible for: set up before the 9:30AM Mass/serving the coffee and donuts/clean up.  If you are interested or have any further questions please call the rectory at 508-875-5959.

Together, we can make this a great parish event!

Get to know our Parish Mission Conductor!

    Michael Moran, C.P.

Michael Moran, a native of West Springfield, MA, professed his vows as a Brother of the Eastern Province of the Passionist community in 1974.

In 1977 he received a Master’s Degree in theology from St. John’s University in New York City, after which he worked in various retreat centers and other ministries of his province.

Though largely self-taught, he studied art with August Mosca, a noted Long Island artist, from 1984 to 1989.   He attended the Art Students League in Manhattan from 1989 to 1990.  One of his specialties is painting icons, translating this ancient art form of the Eastern Christian churches, into contemporary terms.   His art can be seen on his web site www.angelstudiostore.com.

Brother Michael has also served as the chaplain of the Supportive Care Program of St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, a program that provides support for people with life-threatening illnesses and their caregivers.  He also conducts painting classes for senior citizens in New York.

A large part of Brother Michael’s ministry is conducting creativity workshops, retreats which focus on meditation and the artistic process, as well as parish mission-retreats.
